The two business owners of "Mint Dental Works" wanted to transform an empty shell in SE Portland into the first LEED for Commercial Interiors Platinum dental office in the nation; the certification was made official in the summer of 2008. Sustainable design features in the reception area include reclaimed white glass pendants that hang from the barrel-vaulted ceiling, two oversized reclaimed doors provide privacy, and a "wooden quilt backsplash" made from reclaimed millwork rosettes. Additional green solutions in dental office such as strategically located recycling centers, energy efficient lighting plan, low-flow plumbing fixtures, natural light and FSC certified wood were part of the overall design.
The dentistry won the Excellence 2007 Award by the Home Builder's Association of Metropolitan Portland, for the category of a Green Remodeling Project and the Green Building Project 2008 Outstanding Remodeling Achievement Award by the Oregon Remodelers Association
